Week?: Life in the North

What's up friends and family! I hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas!

So the past few weeks have been quite eventful. For starters I am now serving in Omak, Washington, which is about an hour away from the Canadian border! I am also now in a trio which is pretty sweet! My companions are Elder Camba and Elder Potter. They are some great guys! On the Wednesday of transfers our companionship of Elders and another companionship of Elders got our cars stuck in the snow which was really unfortunate as we were stuck for a little over 6 hours and didn't make it to our area until pretty late! I don't recommend getting stuck in the snow, but it ended up being a super great bonding experience haha.

The ward in Omak is super great and very welcoming! It is a little bit smaller of a ward, but it is very homey. The area I am currently covering includes the towns of Omak, Okanagan, and Grand Coulee. It is a pretty big area because Grand Coulee is an hour away from our apartment! It is pretty cold up here in the north and I have seen lows in the -20s and -30s...brrrrr. The good news is that it has been warming up and this next week I think it might be above freezing for once haha!

As a missionary I get the unique opportunity to be a full-time representative of my Savior, Jesus Christ. This is an amazing thing always, but it is especially great during the Christmas season! This Christmas season I have learned lots about Jesus Christ and His life. I know that Jesus Christ lives and that He is our Savior. Because of Him we can find peace amidst the many trials and struggles we will face during our mortal journey. Because of Him we can experience lasting happiness or joy. I love Jesus Christ and I am so grateful that I get to serve him and His children here in Washington. If anyone who reads this is considering serving a mission I would tell them to just send it. I don't think you will ever regret choosing to serve. I know that you will be blessed and taken care of as you serve. I love you all! Merry Christmas! Have a great week!

Monday December 19, 2022

Email to Padre: Good morning Dad! So I am in Omak not Ellensburg haha! The new area is really great, but just a tad cold. We only have one area in the mission that is farther north then mine so I'm pretty far north. We are in a trio and there is definitely plenty of work, we just need to find it. {Elder Adams was put in this trio because his assigned companion for this transfer to the Coulee Dam area was in the hospital with a collapsed lung.} Our teaching pool is a little small at the moment, but Elder Camba, Elder Potter and I are going to change that! So I don't he know all of the reasons I am in Omak instead of Ellensburg, but I do know we had some missionaries go home and others received there original assignment on the day before transfers and President Welch and the APs had to switch a lot of things around. It was crazy because they called me at like 9pm the day before transfers and were like Hey can you go to Omak instead of Ellensburg and I was like I don't even know where that is, but sure haha.

My health is great! I've been eating really good lately and working out quite frequently. My physical address is 307 Ash St S #3. Yeah, the church is right by Walmart haha. I am probably going to call later today, but you might be at work still when I call. I have to call before 4pm here because at 4 we are playing b-ball with some nonmembers at the community center. We helped some guys with shoveling and we talked a lot of sports with them and they said we should ball up sometime. It sounds like a decent amount of nonmembers are going to roll up, so it should be super cool. Our whole district will be there, but there are only 5 of us Elders haha.

It is definitely a huge blessing to represent Jesus Christ as a full time missionary during the Christmas season! Love you too!

Email to Madre: I emailed dad and I shared some of my adventures from this last week, but I probably will share more if/when I call today!

No surprise that Heidi rocked her solo, she is like super good at singing. That is so fun that y'all got to play with Squish! Mina is a super cool and awesome grandma name! That is so fun that you guys are passing out Christmas treats and going to Union Station per usual.

I should most likely get all of my packages at zone conference! I will definitely continue to keep taking good care of myself and eating good grub. Yes I will call on Christmas day! Not really sure what our plans are for Christmas day yet because we are 2 hours away from the rest of our zone and we don't really know the members yet. The ward mission leader already loves us and would feed us, but he's going to be out of town. He did say that he would make sure we would have somewhere to go so we should be chilling.

Love you too Mom! Merry Christmas! I will be on the lookout for the cards!

Re to Madre: 13 days until Christmas:

Yeah December is flying by haha! I am doing super good! Yeah the mission office texted me and said that two of my packages are here! So crazy story I'm 99.9% sure that we used to have magnesium like that at our house cause I'm pretty sure I was taking that fairly regularly at some point! I greatly appreciate all of the information that you found and sent me! It is very helpful and I will definitely utilize it! I love you too Mom! Hah just a little sappy!

Love, Elder Cody Adams

p.s. I am one lucky dog 🐕

Good afternoon Dad!

This week has been really great and productive! That is so cool for Dallin Evans!! I'm way excited for him! He's going to do great things (on his mission)! Yep transfers are on Wednesday! I am getting transferred to Ellensburg in the Selah zone! My area will be Reecer Creek East, West and the YSA up there! I'm definitely going to miss Yakima and Tieton drive, but I am ready for some change!

We had some more good meetings with Sherry! I will miss teaching her, but Elder Wheeler is staying so she will be fine. I started messaging a couple new people on Facebook and I'm trying to set them up with the missionaries where they live so that could be cool! We had a zone testimony meeting last Friday and it was super spiritual! My guy Elder Anderson bore his testimony and it was super fire!

Love you too Dad!

-Elder Cody Adams

{Note: Cody did not go to Ellensburg this transfer. On Tues night, 12.13.22, he got a call from the AP's assigning him to Coulee Dam area, but his companion for that area was in the hospital with a collapsed lung, so Cody was sent to Omak to be in a trio -see the next post. On the way back to Omak from the transfer location there was lots of snow on the roads, and the vehicle that Cody was in, as well as another car of elders, struggled in the snow until at one point they all got stuck. After working so hard together to get unstuck, and to stay warm, Cody told everyone, "This isn't worth it if we don't go to each other's weddings." Always keeping the big picture in mind.
